First Stop – Santorini

Usually, when you read about a place in a book, seeing it in the movie version doesn’t do your imagination justice. That was not the case when I saw Santorini, Greece in the movies made from Ann Brashares’ The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series.

This archipelago of volcanic islands is known for its whitewashed houses built right into the dramatic cliffs. Oia, the Santorini village in Brashares’ books, is most famous for its breathtaking sunsets. I have to admit I used to make fun of my mom for her enthusiasm for sunsets, but I have finally come to appreciate them. Perching on a rock above smooth golden water watching the sun sink down into the ocean sounds pretty perfect right now.
